Julia Banks is an Independent Member of the House of Representatives in the Federal Parliament of Australia.
Julia was elected in 2016 as the Member for Chisholm and has served as a member of the House Economics Committee and Chair of the Social Policy and Legal Affairs Committee. She has also been Chair of a number of Parliamentary Friendship groups including UNICEF, a member of the Climate Change Action group and she launched the first ever Parliamentary Friendship Group for Women's Health.
A born and bred Victorian, and prior to entering Parliament, for over 25 years Julia worked as a lawyer in both private practice and for large businesses in senior executive and director roles, whilst being involved in community work for charities and not-for-profit organisations.
Julia understands the challenges of balancing home, children, work and community life, having raised two children with her husband whilst working full time.
As a second generation Mornington Peninsula family, Julia’s longstanding connection with the local community underpin her love for the place she calls home and an “irreplaceable part of our lives.”
When Julia announced she is running as an Independent candidate for the Flinders electorate in the forthcoming Federal Election she said:
“Local communities are the heart and soul of our great country and it’s important that the people of Flinders electorate have someone who genuinely works hard for them and takes pride in being their voice in Parliament. I’ve always given 100% and this is no different”
